V-Soft designers have increased Internet mapping functionality in FMCommander thanks to new browser integration with Acme Mapper, Microsoft Live Server, and the USGS GNIS Server, in addition to the existing relationships with Google Earth, MS Terraserver, and Trails.com (formerly topozone.com).  All Internet map sites are integrated with the selected station coordinates, so with just the click of your mouse on the desired station you can view the transmitter site on topographic maps or on aerial and satellite photos.  Microsoft's Live Search/Visual Earth utility provides road and aerial views and in some places, a four sided directional "Birdseye" view of requested sites.  Below are some examples of the new features in action using the Acme Mapper site for topographic maps and the MSLive site for satellite Birdseye tower views.  The fifth map is from the USGS GNIS Server. Maps six is from Google Earth. Click the thumbnails to enlarge the images.

With this option you can:

Click on the "globe" icon on the "Find Information Screen" to automatically connect to the Internet map servers to conveniently bring up a topographic or satellite map that plots the precise location of your station's transmitter site.  The maps comes up within the built in browser of the "Find Information" screen. The topographic map can be closed by clicking the 'globe' icon or by pushing the "Esc" key on your keyboard. 

Fox example, let us say you are looking at a map of a station in San Francisco:

Simply click the "globe" Icon, shown above, and the program brings the topographic map showing the transmitter site area. The map scale is automatically set to 1:24,000 in the "large" format.  The maps can be printed directly from the built-in browser.  The servers are mostly free. Some are intended for non-commercial use with licensing available for commercial use.  Maps can be loaded from nearly all of FMCommander's utility windows. The map below shows the Twin Peaks transmitter site of KALW.  This site is also shown in the satellite view shown below. 

Synchronizing with Google Earth

The Internet Mapping Option also allows the user to view any transmitter location from the list on the "Find Information Screen" through Google Earth.  From the "Function" menu simply select "Google Earth" and the computer takes care of the rest. 

The graphic below shows the Google Earth view of the transmitter site of the station under current selection from the "Find Information Screen." The Google Earth service is also free for non-commercial use.  It requires installing the Google Earth program available from Google. (Google also offers a premium service with different licensing rights.)

The Google Earth controls can be used to zoom further in on the site or to give the site a different 3-D view.
