The 2D Map Window

The 2D Map window shows a standard 2D map of a user selected area (usually the area where the 3D map is being displayed).
To configure the map view, the center coordinates and scale can be entered in the edit boxes. A new map will be drawn by pressing the “Draw Map” button. The map shows a rectangle around the area that is currently being displayed in 3D. The “Map Features” button will display the map features window where the colors and overlays can be configured (See the Map Features Window section for more information). The 2D map window also contains three interactive tools which can be used to set the 3D display area, navigate the 2D map, and locate the coordinates of a point on the map.
3D Area Selection Tool
Use the 3D Area Selection Tool to select a region for 3D display. When this tool is selected the cursor will appear as a 3D grid with a set of cross hairs (when the cursor is over the 2D map). Use it to draw a rectangle on the 2D map by clicking and holding the left mouse button and then dragging the mouse to create a rectangle. When the mouse button is released the 3D map will redraw to show the area which was just selected.
Zoom Tool
The zoom tool is used to navigate the 2D map. To zoom out, right click once using the zoom tool. To zoom in, draw a rectangle using the zoom tool on the 2D map indicating the area that you wish the new map to display.
Point Information Tool
Use the point information tool to get information about the point where the cursor is located. When selected, the cursor will change to a set of cross hairs. Place the cross hairs over the 2D map and a marker will appear on the 3D map showing the location of the cursor. At the bottom of the 3D map window the latitude, longitude, and elevation of the point will be display (note: the elevation is only valid for the area where the 3D map is displayed).
